It looks like it is very easy to sharpen with this system (remembering I still have the 6" grinder for serious reshaping)

It can be used for freehand grinding of a range of tools and is ideal for carving and lathe tools. It does a superb job on kitchen knives. The 4" x 61/2" tool rest has a groove to accept sliding jigs. One 1" x 42"

    May 8, 2014 I found this grinder at a yard sale for 20 bucks! The attached motor was not correct so I installed a new motor. I added a switch and four newer heavy duty rubber feet. All mounting bolts are secured with self locking aircraft style nuts. The belts are very easy to change by pushing down on the top pulley.

    Aug 12, 2014 Here's what I have: Dayton 1/4 hp 1725rpm motor (currently wired CCW). The Lee Valley belt sander attachment (6" driven pulley, 3 3/4" idler pulley), 42" belt. The problem: The darn thing has a belt speed about 4 times what I would like (Probably about 3,500 ft/min) The driven pulley can be easily changed

A few other manufacturers you might look into (I'm not sure if they have variable speed) are Kalamazoo industries, Grizzly, Harbor Freight has a cheap one, Lee Valley sells a model where you provide the
